BCBS Job Opening: Center Assistant

Position Available May 2015

BCBS is looking for a sincere dharma practitioner to join our staff and live at the study center. The Center Assistant performs a wide variety of duties to support the operations of the Study Center. The position requires someone who is multi-talented, committed to service, flexible and self-motivated.

Primary Duties:

  • Light housekeeping: order and stock supplies, remove trash, care for house plants, assist with laundry.
  • Office work: assist registrar in processing course registrations, file, answer phones and perform other clerical duties as needed.
  • Maintain bookstore
  • Kitchen duties: help with kitchen cleaning and food preparation, support and train yogis for kitchen jobs, cook meals when the kitchen manager is away.
  • Maintenance: help with weeding, gardening, snow removal and other maintenance projects.
  • Other duties as needed to help maintain the Study Center and support its operations.


  • Commitment to maintaining a warm welcoming environment for guests.
  • A sincere interest in contemplative practice and study.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good clerical skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in working in a kitchen or a genuine interest to learn.
  • Ability to perform some physical heavy work, including snow shoveling and lifting or pushing moderate loads.
  • Sense of humor, flexibility and willingness to perform a wide variety of tasks.

This is a fulltime, 35 hour per week residential position. Compensation includes a modest salary, excellent health benefits, housing & partial board, retirement benefits, and generous paid time off. Staff members are also eligible to participate in all BCBS and IMS programs, including the Staff Sangha program.
