Continuing Education (CE) credits

BCBS offers Continuing Education credits for certain courses to psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, social workers, nurses and classroom teachers. To make these credits available, BCBS must apply for each course with each professional organization, and these processes do not always conclude in the same time frame. Please note: there is a fee of $25 for CEs. (You will not be charged this fee unless CEs are given.) As soon as we have more detailed information about specific courses and professions, we will post it as part of the course description on our website.

Psychologists: Some programs are cosponsored by BCBS and The Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy (IMP). IMP is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, and maintains responsibility for BCBS programs offering CEs for psychologists.

Licensed Mental Health Counselors: IMP is recognized by the National Board for Certified Counselors to offer continuing education for National Certified Counselors. IMP cosponsors certain courses with BCBS, and adheres to NBCC Continuing Education Guidelines. Certain courses are approved for contact hours, Provider #6048, and are applicable for Commonwealth of Massachusetts Counseling/Allied Mental Health and PDP accreditation.

Social Workers: The Collaborative of the National Association of Social Workers, Boston College, and Simmons College Schools of Social Work authorizes social work continuing education credits for courses, workshops, and educational programs that meet the criteria outlined in 258 CMR of the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Social Workers. BCBS is approved to offer CE credits for social workers for some courses.

Nurses: Appropriate courses meet the specifications of the Board of Registration in Nursing (244 CMR) for continuing education contact hours.

Classroom Teachers: BCBS is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education as a registered professional development provider, and offers PDPs for certain courses.

The approval process to offer CE credits takes some time, and often CE information about a particular course is not available until close to the date of the course. If you have any questions about the CE process as it relates to a specific course you’d like to attend, please contact Marsha Lawson, BCBS Course Manager, on 978-355-2347 x10.
