This program is designed as a continuation of the ongoing conversation among dharma practitioners on the broad theme of “going forth” into retirement years, and having to deal with the existential issues of growing old, facing sickness, facing death, and, perhaps most importantly, feeling a lack of self-sufficiency. The focus of the program will be on developing and cultivating a sense of emotional and psychological self-sufficiency so we are able to meet our “declining years” more purposefully and with greater courage. We will use materials from the Pali Canon as well as broader Buddhist traditions to reflect on the possibility of self-sufficiency.
